This is a universal story about wanting to trade places, to take a break from your own body - a theme that feels very queer. Klara manages to add small details, they won't break the story if you miss them, but if you're anything like me, it feels like a small award when I find them. For example, tiny smiley faces by the colophon or starting the book with old-school folding meter sticks. Klara lets us into a world with its own perspective and no rules. She also tactfully highlights Maximilian's huge size by using the form of the book; he exists outside the page, only half of his body is seen, and he bends to allow us to see his entire figure. There is also an active type of reading when we are told to rotate the book. During our bokklubb meeting, we will read the picturebook, discuss some new words/terms, and maybe create our own characters that are living on the opposite end of each other 🧒👩‍🦱🧔‍♀️🧓
