July is a vacation month for the bokklubb — like the rest of the country! We will start back again next month. Finding an alternative venue has not been easy; the good news is I have time now to look for a venue for August, and I am happy to announce that the September meeting venue has already been secured! If you feel like picking up a book this month, I highly suggest Fantastika Fakta Om Djurungar. It could be a follow-up from our first book, Sovdags för Lydia, where we talked about how the different animals sleep!

The book is small to toss in your bag at only 16.5 x 20.5 cm but thick enough at 110 pages for you to spend reading while picnicking or commuting compared to a fast read of a 32-page picturebook. Each spread is of a different animal illustrated in black and white. One of my favorites is Svarta Svanar1 with a samkönade-par2 of Pappa I + Pappa II with the biologisk mamma peeking at the top of the page! I like many others, but I will spare you the spoilers. Even the tacksida3 at the end of the book is a pleasure to look at and read. 

Besides trying to practice reading in Swedish, are there any books you're reading in other languages? I am currently reading Hijab Butch Blues by Lamya H. in English. Also, this summer, I want to read Old Enough by Haley Jakobson and Pageboy by Elliot Page, both in English. Pageboy in Swedish has already been released! One day 🤞 I will be able to tackle a full-on Swedish memoir. 

For August, I want to try a voting method for picking a book. I have three suggestions below. Let me know which book you're more excited to read together. I will announce the book selected at a later date. 

1. Små människor, stora drömmar: Frida Kahlo by Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara + Gee Fan Eng.
2. Kiosken by Anete Melece.
3. Cyklar är fantastiska by David Henson.
