Holidays πŸ˜πŸ‘’

While browsing at Stadsbiblioteket the other day, I picked up a copy of The Holidays by Blexbolex. He is one of my favorite illustrators, with an approach that shows an apparent printmaking influence. I got to know his work thanks to Enchanted Lion Publishers' translation of his book Saisons about 13 years ago.

Gecko Press, 2018
ISBN 978-1-776571-93-2
Original title: Nos Vacances

The Holidays is a wordless picturebook with lively scenes. Funny enough, I also learned that the American-English translation of this title is simply Vacation πŸš‚ It makes a great pick when you want to practice articulating or writing in Swedish. For instance, pick one or two spreads from the book, and describe what you see. Some pages have a clock telling the time, which can also be an added challenge. I still struggle to form sentences; I constantly have to remind myself to think into the future when telling the time!

I have created an Instagram account for the bokklubb. I am against having a million accounts on the platform, but a dedicated one would be better, as my personal account has less than 3% of followers from Sweden! The account will focus on learning Swedish + bookish finds. Give the account a follow. I plan to post short announcements and suggestions on there.

Our next meeting is scheduled on October 8th. The book we are reading is πŸ₯

We have read a book by Klara before; it was for the very first bokklubb meeting. I am excited to revisit Klara’s style and compare it to our previous read πŸ’Œ
